Step-size is determined by neck length in myosin V.
The highly processive motor, myosin V, has an extremely long neck containing six calmodulin-binding IQ motifs that allows it to take multiple 36 nm steps corresponding to the pseudo-repeat of actin. To further investigate how myosin V moves processively on actin filaments, we altered the length of the neck by adding or deleting IQ motifs in myosin constructs lacking the globular tail domain. Th...
متن کاملNeck length and processivity of myosin V.
Myosin V is an unconventional myosin that transports cargo such as vesicles, melanosomes, or mRNA on actin filaments. It is a two-headed myosin with an unusually long neck that has six IQ motifs complexed with calmodulin. In vitro studies have shown that myosin V moves processively on actin, taking multiple 36-nm steps that coincide with the helical repeat of actin. This allows the molecule to ...
متن کاملLength control is determined by the pattern of cytoskeleton.
In our previous experiments with linear strips of adhesive substrate, we found that elongated cultured fibroblasts preserve their length regardless of cell width and the number of cytoplasmic processes. This constancy of length was called 'length control'. In contrast to fibroblasts, single cultured epitheliocytes have nearly discoid shape on the plane substrata and have no length-controlling m...
متن کاملinfluence of physiological factors on thyroid size determined by ultrasound
according to its superficial anatomical location, the thyroid gland is easily accessible by sonography. sonography allows an exact documentation of the size and thyroid volume. the relationship between thyroid volume and anthropometric characteristics is a matter of controversy. the aim of this study was to investigate thyroid volume and its determinants in healthy adult. a cross-sectional stud...
متن کاملInfluence of Fluctuations in Actin Structure on Myosin V Step Size
We study the influence of helical disorder in the actin structure on the myosin V step size, predicted from the elastic lever arm model. We show that fluctuations of +/-5 degrees per actin subunit, as proposed by Egelman et al., significantly alter the distribution of step sizes and improve the agreement with experimental data.
